Assistant Project Manager - Graduate Role
Launch your career in the PM company with the largest footprint in Aotearoa. 14 locations, and a talented team to work with. Perfect to learn, grow and upskill.
As an Assistant Project Manager (APM) with TBIG, you’ll get your hands on a great range of projects, work alongside experienced project specialists, and gain exposure to the kind of work that will help shape your future career.
We’re passionate about supporting the next generation of talent, and this graduate opportunity will kick off in late 2026 or early 2027. As part of the role, you’ll join MyPath, our supported APM programme, giving you access to structured development, practical experience, and guidance from people who have been there before.
You’ll have completed a tertiary qualification in construction, building science, design, QS or something similar. You may just be starting out, but you’ll bring curiosity, ambition and a real interest in all things construction. Most importantly, you’ll be keen to get stuck in, build your skills and make the most of the opportunities that come with being part of a great team and working on meaningful projects.
You Matter @ TBIG
You really do! We want you to have the best work stories when you’re talking with your mates, because every day will be different. You’ll have boots on the ground when you go on a site visit, you’ll contribute to meetings, soak up skills at Lunch ‘n’ Learn sessions and be part of our regular social events. You need to have some fun at work, and we encourage that.
And, while you’re working hard on your career, we’ll help with some of the smaller things – like a well-stocked kitchen, lots of social times with your colleagues, and company health and well-being initiatives such as our Spring Challenge.
The Role
As an APM, you’ll get your hands on a great range of project opportunities and the chance to work with multiple teams. You’ll get to experience projects in different phases, building your exposure in everything from design to construction and getting a project to the finish line - that magic day when people walk into their new building or tamariki see their new school for the first time.
You’ll be part of a team, with a mentor, helping our projects hit their milestones through:
Supporting the TBIG project team in project delivery.
Engaging with people on projects – it’s all about team and building relationships with clients, consultants and contractors.
Preparing reports, minutes, and programmes – it’s the big and small details that matter.
Developing skills in meeting management.
Here’s what we need from you:
Ambition to learn and be mentored towards a PM career on TBIG’s MyPath Programme.
A great attitude is everything. Our clients and project teams genuinely enjoy working with TBIG project teams.
Be a good communicator, if you’re clear, consistent and positive, you’ll win respect.
A willingness to step up and take ownership for delivering some parts of a project
Be able to take guidance, as well as keen to make suggestions and find solutions – project management revolves around planning, collaboration and problem-solving.
